thanks for the info Jay and Alex, the problem is when we do in gitlab CI, the runner doesnt recognize origin/master because it checks out only the specific commit. However, we are able to get past this using some pre-defined SHA variables during a merge/pull request. I was just wondering if anyone had done in in a non-hacky way
